Pittsburgh, PA -- Storytime STEM for K-2

Location:
Homestead, PA
About the School:

Made possible by the Arconic Foundation, this project focused on bringing STEM to life through storytelling for K-2 teachers. In partnership with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU), CE collaborated on the development of two Storytime STEM Packs. These Packs are curriculum and hands-on bundles that guide young students through the process of engineering design within the context of a specific story. The stories chosen for the new energy-focused curriculum used in this workshop were The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind and My Papi Has a Motorcycle. Using culturally sustaining and justice-centered pedagogy, activities were designed to harness the assets and genius of all students.

CE collaborated with AIU to deliver training virtually in two segments, one focusing on each book. Trainings used the materials from the Packs that were shipped ahead of time to each individual teacher. In total, this two day workshop reached 30 teachers from 23 schools, impacting 3,392 students.
