About the School:

This project was made possible with funding from Voya Foundation, which focuses on financial resilience - ensuring that today's youth are equipped with the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) expertise necessary to compete in the 21st century workforce, and the financial literacy skills necessary to make smart financial decisions that lead to a secure retirement.

On May 6, 2019 19 educators from Hartford Public Schools came together to participate in an all-day Renewable Energy workshop hosted at Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) located in the center of Hartford, CT. The sunny day granted participants an opportunity to harness the sun’s energy and transform it into more useful energy by exploring solar reflectors, circuits, and solar cars. The workshop focused on the Engineering Design Process in grades 3-5. There was a total of 11 schools and 19 participants present at the workshop, which made for a collaborative day for teachers to cross-pollinate and exchange ideas for applying Next Generation Science Standards and content. Each participating school left with a durable science kit to bring back to their home school.
