Christie started her STEM journey working with Washington Alliance for Better Schools as a STEM Fellow and began teaching an after school program focused on clean energy and design and engineering. During her 10+ years in education, she has developed NGSS aligned curriculum for her school which incorporates 21st century skills and career connections into lessons.

Emily was already a veteran reading and language arts teacher with a background in outdoor education and adventure programming before making the transition to become a 6th-grade science teacher at Wy’east Middle School in Hood River, OR and focusing on developing hands-on learning opportunities with creative field trips for her students.

Shelby Jones

Heart Butte School, Heart Butte MT

Shelby has a PhD in microbiology and moved to Heart Butte in 2019 where she began teaching at Heart Butte School. She worked to revise the school’s science curriculum which honors Blackfeet culture and language and focus on renewable energy and a connection to a solar panel installation at her school. Students learned the science behind the solar panels and engaged in engineering challenges to learn real-world problem solving and collaboration skills. Shelby serves at AISES Advisor for her school.
