Bonneville Environmental Foundation’s CE Program and ROSE Community Development proposed a strategy to build capacity and engagement in connection with the solar project installed at the The Orchards of 82nd affordable housing and community building. This project is funded by Portland General Electric’s Renewable Development Fund.
ROSE resident assets coordinators will work with BEF’s CE program to develop a training for educators who will provide classes to both children and residents of the building. ROSE staff will invite educators and staff from other partnering organizations, including members from the Orchard's anchor tenant - the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO) - to attend the training.
The training will explain the science behind the electrical production on the roof of the building and the broader energy industry, as well as provide hands-on STEAM education projects for out-of-school time educational experiences for the building's afterschool program.
