Thanks to the generous support of Idaho Power's voluntary Green Power Program, Salmon Junior Senior High School joined the Solar 4R Schools program in spring of 2016. In 2016, Community School was selected by Idaho Power to become the next Renewable School in Bonneville Environmental Foundation’s (BEF) Solar 4R Schools program. Thanks to generous support and funding from the utility’s Green Power Program participants and project match provided by Community School, the school installed a 15 kW PV system on the school which is estimated to cover seven to eight percent of the campus’ electric use. As Oregon's Largest Community Solar Project, Central Electric Cooperative energized its 200-kW photovoltaic system in January 2016, feeding the electricity produced directly into the co-op’s distribution system.  Funded by participating customers, Clark Public Utilities built this Community Solar project in 2015. Community Solar is a different model for solar energy. Instead of putting a solar array on an individual home, community projects bring together a group of participants to build a larger array. More than 700 utility customers own a piece of this solar array and receive state incentives and utility generation credits based on the amount of solar power produced.
