About the School:

In 2006, Burke Electric installed a 6-kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) system onto Redmond High School (RHS) in Redmond, Washington. This initial system has since been expanded and enhanced by GC Solar to nearly 22-kilowatts and represents a significant investment by the district and the school. The system enhances Redmond High School’s well-deserved reputation as a leader in sustainable design and technology, and provides a demonstrable means of educating students on the functions and benefits of solar electric power at no financial cost to the school.

Thanks to the support of Puget Sound Energy and the Lake Washington School District, Redmond High School expanded their commitment to renewable energy generation and education by joining the Solar 4R Schools program as a Renewable Classroom in 2006. Renewable Classroom projects are designed to build a dedicated community of renewable energy educators within a single school or district, led by a designated “Teacher Champion.” With their project, educators within Redmond High School received a customized renewable energy teacher training, hands-on science kit materials to augment the school's existing curricula, and complete access to the resources available on the Solar4RSchools.org website. RHS added the Solar 4R Schools classroom resources and activities to its physics and environmental science classes in the spring of 2006. Redmond High School has been recognized as having one of the nation's best science programs.
